Thankful Thursday

You’re ready aren’t you? You know what day it is! Let’s go!

Today, I’m thankful for:

  • An oscillating fan (It is hoootttttt up in here!)
  • Rain (It’s cooling the earth a bit)
  • Cereal (Such a quick and easy fix)
  • Yogurt (Snackedy, snackedy!)
  • Water bottles (The individual, reusable ones. If they didn’t exist, I would never drink any water)
  • Yoga (Calms me right down)
  • Online communities (Particularly writing communities; lots of great links, tips, and resources are shared)
  • Birthday cakes (How else would we celebrate birthdays?! Nothing would do quite like a cake does.)
  • Third piece of my 4 year old niece’s birthday cake (I was the first aunt to get cake! Only a cousin and her dad were before me. Special auntie!)
  • Progress on my ROW80 goals (Yeah, I know I’m not checking in on Sunday and Wednesdays like I’m supposed. That is just WAY too often for me. I MIGHT decided to do once per week for the duration of the challenge, but no more than that.)
  • Blog buddies + their posts + their comments on my posts + their encouragement. Y’all rock!

Feel Good Monday

Happy Mondaaaaayyyyy!

I love Mondays, and you know this, right?

Maybe I’m a little bit EXTRA happy today. If I am, here are a few reasons:

  • I did my run AND yoga even though I was struggling with the first day of “the affliction.”
  • I had a few minutes on the beach, just looking the ocean, smelling the salt in the air, feeling the breeze, with the sun at my back.
  • I found the perfect writing desk, untreated, at Wood You. Now I just need to save the money, and think about/find the designs I want to stencil onto it before finishing it.
  • I edited a short story a wrote last week, and it’s alllllmost there. It will definitely be ready for the Cheers Reader competition on Thursday.
  • I feel like my short story writing skills are improving. The quality of this story in comparison to the last one (yes, I remember that I rushed it) is commendable. I’m going to go back to the other story later this week to bring it up to par.
  • I’ve been doing well with drinking water, and I’ve been practicing yoga more. I definitely feel the difference, and I like it.
  • I’m making soup tonight. It should be good for 3 meals each. Hopefully, I’ll find some nice bread to go with it.
  • My friend of 21 years or so celebrated her birthday on Saturday evening. It was a nice bbq at her house. It’s always nice to catch up with her. Another friend (of about 15 years) was there, and we hadn’t seen each other in about 3 years. Some other interesting people were there, so it made for a pretty cool evening. I was glad Babe got to meet two of my oldest friends – two of the only people from way-back-when that I bother to keep in touch with.
  • Babe loves me. I hear it and see it every day. 🙂 How fortunate am I?!
Goals for this week:
  1. At least 3 evening runs to get back into the groove
  2. Grocery shopping
  3. Lunch from home at least 4 days
  4. Polish short story for competition
  5. First draft of flash fiction for competition
  6. Full inventory of items in storage unit
  7. Develop a plan for the purchase of my own vehicle without bank financing

Anxious about:
Dad: “How much do you have saved towards a car?”
Me: “Not much…”
Dad: “Have you been doing ANYthing?”
Me: “Yeah…[volume goes way down as I say things that don’t make sense]”
Sooo, yeah… I was given one of my dad’s/brother’s cars to use, but now the one my brother was driving is down. It won’t be fixed for a while because it costs over $1000. I think they need the car back. I might be screwed.

Thankful Thursday

Feel Good Tuesday

Happy Tuesdaaaaayyyyy!

I’m a in really good mood today. I have idea why. There is no logical reason. But me?! Worry?! Never!

This song played just as I parked at work this morning, and I sat in the car to sing it loudly. With the windows down. I’m bad like that. I kinda feel like that… Toniii-iii-iiii-iiiight, we are youuu-oooung, so let’s set the world on fiii-yaaah, we can briii-iighter, than the suuu-oh-uuuh-uuun! WOO!

Talk about energy! Of the positive kind. I’m going to get a lot done today. I’m going to work like I have the day off tomorrow. I’m going to make progress with my novel. I’m going to do something physical when I get home (which probably won’t be running, and DANG IT, I forgot to toss running clothes in the car… Got thrown off when I had to switch cars with my mom this morning so she could take the one I’ve been driving to be licensed.)… Jump on the trampoline, jog on it a little, jump rope… Something. ‘Cause guess what! Toniii-iii-iii-iiight, weee are yooouuung! Hahaha.

Ok. So play that song. Feel the energy. Get yourself in an awesome mood. Make 3 goals for yourself today. And GO AT THEM like the man who stole your grandmother’s wallet on the bus. CONQUER them. Because you can.

I have two meetings today. Maybe three. Lots of opportunity for people to say and do things that could bring me down. IFFF I allow it. And I won’t. I just decided, so it’s a done deal. I will be happy. I will be positive. I will use all energy, whether positive or negative, for good. I will do my best. I will be satisfied. I will enjoy and live in every moment of this day.

I’m Thankful

It’s Thursday. You know what that means!

Today, I’m thankful for:

  • Improved water consumption *taps self on back*
  • Wine Dinner this weekend!
  • Awesome bloggers sharing their stories, inspiring and encouraging others, kind comments, etc.
  • Good books to read. Currently reading Still Alice
  • Nice reminder I just got to review a book and post it here
  • Character Development – It is SO helpful. I spent an hour last night, getting to know the characters of the novel I’ll be writing (and re-writing) over the next few months, and the novel is really taking shape in my head. The plot has thickened, just from that exercise. And I’m not done yet! So exciting!
  • Lots to do. I THRIVE on this. I love being busy, and being able to change it (what I’m doing at any given time) up as needed
  • Running. I am seriously BACK. On Saturday morning, I went for a solo run. Clocked my best mile! WOO! Went out again on Tuesday evening. Did 1.5 miles, and almost ran the whole way. I am making progress, and building up endurance. This is GREAT. I feel SO GOOD about it. It helps that running is a sort of therapy for me.
  • Yoga on Saturday with my mum. It’s been recommended by her doctor. I hate yoga, really. Ok, so I’ve only taken one class. It sucked. Scarred me. But I’m gonna give it another shot, just for my mama.
  • Dad is going to the US in a few days. This means I can get stuff! I want a pair of running capris, tanks, a long sleeve top (that matches my Vibrams, hehehehe), and a hydration belt. I’m also gonna get him to mail a bunch of Christmas cards I wrote up from 2010. LOL. And some tea for friends. 🙂
  • Finding that positive, happy place… In ME.
  • My innate ability to turn things on and shut things off in seconds. You probably don’t understand this, and that’s okay. 🙂

Be Beautiful

As you already know, I like sharing things. Little bits of happiness. Advice. Smiles. Jokes. Today, it’s something I think we can all stand to read at least once in life. I spent some time hanging out over at Bloom Anyway today, and came across a link to THIS (and you KNOW I’m highlighting things):

Here are 36 ways to start feeling absolutely beautiful right now:

1. Smile. It lights up your face. It triggers happiness in your brain. It makes others feel happy.

2. Remember your posture. Stand up straight. Hold your head high. Throw those shoulders back. You look confident, energetic, amazing!

3. Focus on the best not the worst. Stop staring at the wrinkle or the bulge. Quit comparing yourself to Patty Perfect. Let your “worst” features recede and focus on your best instead. You have far more beautiful features than you see!

4. Be amazed at the wonder of your body. No matter your size, shape, or age, your body is a miraculous temple. Observe how wondrously it operates to house the beautiful person you are.

8. Break a sweat. Get some exercise. Put on that lovely spandex and move your beautiful body. Get an endorphin high. Let your hair get sweaty and greasy. Through the sweat you are shining like star!

9. Practice beautiful movement. Try ballet, tai chi, yoga or some other movement that is fluid and allows your body to respond in beautiful new ways. <<< This is my thing for today.

10. Acknowledge your inner beauty. Get pen and paper and write down all of the beauty that you do, that you give, that you create, and that you are. You are a powerhouse of beauty.

11. Show kindness. A kind person is exquisite in their beauty. It shines from them like a beacon of hope and peace.

12. Don’t try too hard. Don’t overdo it with make-up or clothes. Don’t spend thousands getting surgery. Don’t exercise yourself to death. When you try too hard, you look desperate. It’s hard to feel beautiful when you feel desperate. <<< This is my life. Easy.

13. Don’t act your age. Your age doesn’t define you or your capacity for beauty. In fact, age ripens you and provides a lushness to your bad, beautiful self! Live the age you feel.

14. Create something. Creativity is the handmaiden of beauty. Creativity is beauty expressing itself through you. Paint, write, garden, scult, cook, sew, decorate — be creative and you will feel beauty spilling out of every pore.

15. Inspire others. As the poet Rumi writes, “Let the beauty we love be what we do.” Do beautiful things. Live beauty. Be beauty. You will inspire others through your beauty.

16. Stop your thoughts. It’s hard to feel beautiful when your brain is whirring away like a ticker tape with negative thoughts about your appearance or age. When you are trapped in those thoughts, stop yourself and redirect your thinking.

17. See yourself through the eyes of a loved one. View yourself the way those dearest to you see you. Offer yourself the love they offer you. Feel the beauty they feel around you. <<< Now THIS is a REALLY good idea! Love it.

18. Connect with the beauty of nature. You are part of the natural world in all of its infinite glory and seasonal changes. As you experience nature, become aware of your connection to the beauty around you.

19. Listen to beautiful music. Certain music speaks to your soul. It touches and enlivens the most spiritual and beautiful parts of ourselves. Listen to Brandenburg Concertos #5 by Bach to feel your beauty come alive.

20. Make love. No explanation needed. <<< !!!!!!!

21. Wear clothes well. If you aren’t a natural at dressing to suit your body type, age, and coloring, find someone to help you find clothing highlight the beauty inside of you.

22. Hug often. Share loving physical touch with friends and family. It’s a beautiful thing!

23. Get enough sleep. You know what lack of sleep does to your appearance, not to mention your mental health. A good night’s sleep is a mini facelift!

24. Dance. Dance alone. Dance with a partner. Dance like no one is watching. Dancing makes you feel like a beautiful child, carefree and happy.

25. Update your make-up. Make sure your make-up doesn’t look dated, too heavy, or just wrong. Sometimes we get stuck in make-up ruts. An new look can highlight your most beautiful features.

26. Have a beautiful mind. Don’t corrupt your mind with ugly thoughts about yourself or others. Don’t dwell on unpleasant things. Don’t watch violence or negative programs or movies. Fill your thoughts with loveliness. <<< Good call!

27. Stop smoking. It ages your skin, it smells bad, it’s bad for you, and it doesn’t reflect self-love. Dropping this bad habit will instantly make you feel more beautiful.

29. Do physical work. If you have a desk job, sometimes you miss the beauty of a task completed with the physical evidence of your accomplishment. Do something physical like washing the car, raking leaves, gardening, etc. to see the fruits of your labor. Moving, working, accomplishing — that feels beautiful!

30. Take care of your teeth. Since you are now smiling often, you want your teeth to look their pearly best. White, clean teeth make you look ten years younger. Plus, it’s hard to smile if you are embarrassed about your teeth.

31. Create beauty around you. Let your surroundings reflect the beauty inside of you. Remove clutter. Clean windows. Add flowers. Let your home be filled with your beauty. <<< SUPER important in my life. I neeeed things clean. And neat. And clutter-free. Otherwise, I’m confused, unable to think clearly, unhappy… Not good. GOTTA keep the surroundings as I keep myself.

32. Cook a beautiful meal. Well-prepared, healthy, and delicious food prepared by loving hands is beauty for the mouth and the soul.

33. Reduce stress. Anxiety, a furrowed brow, a tense frown, hunched shoulders are all the physical manifestations of stress. Find the cause of your stress and do something to relieve it. Shine the light of your beauty on the situation. It might dissolve.

34. Exude self-confidence. Show the world that you know you are beautiful where it counts. Your self-confidence rises in direct proportion to your self-acceptance. Love the unique and beautiful person you are and share that with the world.

35. Dress up. Life has gotten increasingly casual. Dress up on occasion. In fact, be the best dressed person in the room. Wear red! Turn a few heads.

36. Express gratitude. Be grateful for everything you are and everything you have. The handful of complaints you have about your appearance is nothing compared to the cornucopia of blessings that surround you. Bathe in the beauty of your blessings, and it will transform you from the inside out.

Is It My LUCKY DAY?!

After that last post, I feel like I need to spread a little sunshine. And show some gratitude. Sometimes, circumstances get us down. We seem to be more than willing to crouch down, and get under the weather. And then lay flat like dead meat. Cockroaches have more will to live than we do sometimes, when they’re on their backs, legs moving. We need to have that type of GUSTO. Channel our inner cockroaches! We need to WILL ourselves to flip over on the right side, up on our legs, and MOVE. We need to want it a little more.

Well, last week, I went on and on about this job that I really wanted. Quick catch up for those who didn’t see this post,  this post or this post. I applied through a friend of friend, I got awesome reference letters, I asked around to see if anyone else knew the employers, etc. I got the interview. I had all kinds of ride drama. I was kind of sort of late-ish for the interview. The interview went pretty well. I hoped and prayed that my showing up a minute late didn’t overshadow my SHINE in the interview. I begged people to hope and pray and send out positive vibes on my behalf. Yeah. So… I GOT. THE FREAKING. JOB! YESSSSS!

I have not the words. DO YOU HEAR ME?! I. HAVE NOT. THE WORDS. I am SO HAPPY!

Babe messaged me, telling me to call the employer. They called her cell phone (the number I left as my contact). I called back for her to offer the job! This happened yesterday. I didn’t want to get too excited until I got an official job offer. It was emailed to me this morning. Let me tell you… It is AWESOME. All I could have asked for. This is truly my DREAM JOB. I will be able to pay my bills and live comfortably. I’ll have health insurance, finally. (I haven’t had health insurance since I got kicked off of my mom’s plan when I graduated from university.) I am in my glory right now. Y’all don’t know. Y’all have NO. IDEA.

I start on October 17. Enough time to give 2 weeks notice. Perfect. The office is sort of far away, in the “rich white people” area. I have no idea what bus to take to get there, but I’m definitely going to figure it out. Probably on my next day off, Babe and I can take the bus early in the morning, and see how long it takes to get there, and figure out what time I’ll need to leave home. Maybe we can talk to the driver to coordinate schedules or something. We’ll see. Right now, I feel like I could bike/walk there, I’m so excited. No matter what I have to do, I WILL get to work. ON TIME!

Me! Little ol’ me! I got a blog award! I’m really excited/flattered/honoured/happy/encouraged by it.

A million zillion thanks to Stacey at Puns Probably Intended. I came across her blog when I was tag surfing one day. A post caught my eye, and it piqued my interest. I checked out more of her posts, and I had to follow her. She has the best stories about parenting. She says about life (and herself), “Life is often a tug-of-war I am playing with myself. Sometimes I win, and sometimes I lose. Many times I find myself to be a walking contradiction.” Well, I don’t think I could have said it any better, Stacey. I concur. That’s life. And I’m definitely a walking contradiction too. Thanks for blogging, for making me laugh, for making me think, and for giving me this awesome, very pretty, lime green award. *curtsies*

The cool thing about this award is that it keeps on giving. Or being given. Like the gift that keeps on giving. It’s like love in Bloggy Land. We just keep spreading it around. Here’s how it works:

See how forward thinking I am? I already did the first one. On to the rest. Now, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t mix it up a little, right? I’m gonna do the third one next, and leave the goodies for last.

7 Things About Me:

  1. I never learned to skate or rollerblade, and at this point, I don’t think it’s gonna happen. Not without a strong person on each side of me, gliding me along. Is that the way it works anyway?
  2. I’m a chicken and turkey kinda girl. I stopped eating pork after a horrible field trip to the disgusting local pig farm (of which I still don’t know the relevance to the biology class) in tenth grade. Actually, I was vegetarian for about a year after that. Then I agreed to eat chicken and turkey so my family wouldn’t think I was anorexic or stress much about what to feed me. Red meat, now, is eaten as a necessity (very rarely) since I have severe iron deficiency anaemia.
  3. The most I’ve had to drink was a few summers ago. I lost count at the 19th shot of tequila. That was quite a night. Most of it is locked away in some memory bank that I don’t have access to at this time.
  4. I love my hair SHORT. It make me feel sort of strong. I think it’s a good look for me, especially since I have a pretty nicely shaped head, full eyebrows, and almond shaped eyes. It has a fierce sort of feel to it. And OH, when I put on a little eyeliner and mascara. TKO. Hahahaha. Also, I am lazy when it comes to hair care. Wash and go is the best thing EVER.
  5. I was in a reality show competition earlier this year. I’ll save the details for one of those posts I always say I’ll do later, and gets left undone for an indefinite period of time.
  6. I don’t wear makeup often. Not to work. Not to church. Not to the movie theatre. And what the hell is up with people wearing makeup there? It’s so dark! Hahahaha. I wear it for super special occasions like weddings and a less-than-ordinary night out. Even then, I go with my essential five – face powder, a little blush, eyeliner (black or navy blue), mascara, and lip colour (I usually mix two). If I’m wearing eyeshadow, I’m feeling REALLY good, or had a LOT of time to kill, and that was one of the ways I chose to kill it.
  7. I love jeans. I wear jeans pretty much all the time. On my day off, I throw on shorts or a summer dress, and on Sundays I do the same. For movies, going to lunch, work, etc.? Jeans!
And now, I have 15 of those sexy babies (see photo above) to give out. All of the blogs are follow are pretty recently discovered. I haven’t been here for very long. I’ve come across a lot of awesome blogs, and found a lot of people that I would really like to meet and hang out with. I could see it happening when I start globe-trotting, or when people start vacationing in The Bahamas. I have a spare room. I’m just saying!

  1. Ruthie at Just Rambling is great. She’s just… She makes you want to laugh. And share your sandwich with her. And hug her. And tell her how ridiculously funny she is, how she makes you want to be more positive and happy. Reading her posts, you just know that she loves life. She has fun. She just goes with it. You kind of have to wonder if her feathers ever get ruffled at all! If she has any feathers, that is. Maybe she’s not a peacock like I keep thinking she is. *shrugs* Anyway, she’s really cool. She blogs about random things and her posts are always fun to read and sprinkle a little sunshine in the day. She says about her blog, “These are just little stories about my everyday life. There are tons of things I will never write about. I won’t talk about politics, poodles or knitting since I don’t know anything about it. If you are looking for writings to increase your intelligence level, don’t read these here.” 
  2. Christina at Christina Does It All is too cute! She and Ruthie must be in a happiness competition. She’s super positive and happy and cheery all the time (in her posts). And she’s hilarious. Like, HIGH-freaking-LARIOUS. Her video posts are the best. You get to see all of her personality oozing out of your computer screen and speakers. You convince yourself that you know her. You want to be her friend. She’s one of those people that make you want to pack up and move so it’s possible to hang out at her house and go shopping with her (if you like shopping). Her About Me page is very honest and to the point. She says, “I’m 22. I want to do everything. As you can probably tell by the name of my new blog. I also love people. I would probably love you. Unless you’re a serial killer or something, you asshole.” Yeah. That about sums it up, Christina. Good job!
  3. Vix at LittleMissVix is pretty great. She sort of blogs about whatever. I like it. I especially like her Friday Finds and Sunday Songs. I like when I can look forward to certain type of post from a blogger on a weekly basis. Every Friday, Vix shares things with her reader. New books, good movies, great songs… All of that. The Sunday Songs are great. There’s always at least one song/artist I’ve never heard. In between all that, she fills in the other days of the week with posts about whatever she’s thinking. This is the first post I read on her blog. Then I read this one. Then I followed. Or something like that. She’s an aspiring writer, and you can read more about her here.
  4. Haley at Green Plate Dinners is a fellow islander. Okay, so our islands are parts of different countries. Whatever. An island is an island. We bonded. I REALLY like Haley’s blog. I can see it just being very HER. She’s very honest. I don’t feel like she over-edits and sugar coats. She says it. Whatever it is. It’s nothing controversial, mind you. She blogs about running, healthy eating, and general fitness. I like the little tips I pick up from her posts, and the very personal feel. It doesn’t feel like Oh-my-gosh-another-running-fanatic-blog-about-boring-runny-stuff-and-peanut-butter-banana-sandwiches. When you land on her homepage, you see the truth in the way she sums it up. She says she’s “striving to create balance and harmony in my very busy life.” Aren’t we all?
  5. Courtney at Please Don’t Throw The Sand! has super fun posts. I often want to copy her post ideas. I think I’ve done a good job of resisting temptation so far. Must. Be. Original. At least until she forgets that you should a certain post. THEN, I’ll copy it. [evil laugh] Her posts are the kind that always make you want to comment. You want to have a dialogue with her. You want to weigh in. It’s not that the posts spark a great debate. They’re just the Oh-my-gosh-me-too! and What?-I-NEVER-do-that! type. You just want to say something. I’m at work, and it seriously took me all day to do this. I know I have ten more people to give the Versatile Blogger Award to. And I already know who they are. I just can’t do them all at once. 3 Things I Love About Babe

It’s 12:57am and I’m still awake. Why? No, really… I’m asking you. I don’t have the answer. I should be asleep. Tomorrow is my day off, so I could sleep in, but I don’t want to. Babe and I need to figure out how to spend the day together. We’re accidentally sleeping in our respective places. Odd. Very odd. THAT must be why I’m still awake. Sheesh!

I was just thinking how great it is to be in love. To love and be loved. To be completely comfortable. In a relationship. With someone else. To have no doubts. To be wholeheartedly, happily, excitedly looking forward to the future. Knowing that the person you most want to spend every special moment with will be there. To smile because he/she smiled. To laugh because his/her laughter is so beautiful and contagious. To share meals, kisses, and beds. To text message when you’ve just been apart for an hour, but there’s no one you’d rather tell exactly what just happened.

Aside from that, mutuality is fantastic. I’ve never been in a relationship like this. Ever. Nothing even came close to this. I receive emails and text messages that tell me exactly how I feel about my Babe. From my Babe. It’s crazy. And great.

3 things off the top of my head that I love about T are:

  1. Kitchen skills. No one can make something great out of the most mediocre ingredients a cupboard could ever have.
  2. Laugh. It’s so ridiculous. And funny. And has so much LIFE in it. I can’t help but laugh when I hear it.
  3. Hands. Because they hold mine. And give me back/neck rubs.
I found Selena Gomez’s Love You Like a Love Song on a top [insert number here] song list somewhere online. I’d never heard the song before, but I like her song Who Says, so I YouTubed this one. It made me think of T. Here it is:
