Five Question Friday

1. Are you a napper?
No. I hate naps. They just make me really cranky when I get up.

2. What was your favorite subject in school? Most hated?
My favourite subjects were math and English, and I could never choose one over the other. Then economics came along in the tenth grade. FAVE. Most hated was definitely science, and then biology when it came along in tenth grade.

3. Did you have the something old new borrowed and blue at your wedding? What were they?
Haven’t had a wedding yet, and I don’t plan to do that. Maybe I’ll have something cold, stolen, gifted, and green. I don’t know. Lol.

4. What one thing are you determined to do this summer?
Get my children’s book series going!

5. Ice cream or Popsicles?

Ice cream!

Join the fun! Answer the questions in your own post and link here. And, of course, tell me about it so I can go read it!

Five Question Friday

1. What did you wear to prom? Include a picture if possible.
A huge dress. A huge, beauuutiful dress. A huge, beautiful, super-expensive dress. Lol. It was gorgeous though. Strapless fitted top with huge skirts with layers and layers of orange on pink on orange on pink for an iridescent coral effect. I don’t even know where to look for my prom pictures online. My mom still has the prints. On my brief search, I found photos from my aunt’s wedding. I was a bridesmaid with overdone makeup and hair. *sighs* Why do they do this to us?! And the two piece was a bit fitted, no? It’s like I have baby bump.

2. Would you rather be on the biggest loser or a food eating challenge?
Definitely on the Biggest Loser. I wouldn’t be there to lose weight though. Just to firm up, and gain some strength and endurance. Way better than stuffing my face with unknown food.

3. Fave sonic drink? Refreshing summer drink?
We did this already. No Sonic around here. And I doubt that I would like it. I like making my own daiquiris. Just wait ’til it’s mango season! Our blender will be sorry it was ever bought!

4. What was your first car, and what did you call it?
I have not yet owned a car. I have been fortunate to be able to get rides pretty much all the time from my parents and siblings. I may have to sink money into my own vehicle soon. When I do, I’m hoping it’ll be something small and cute. LOVE those Suzuki Swifts!

5. What’s one thing your child or spouse does that sends you over the edge?

Don’t know why I couldn’t get the space above this to disappear. Oh, WP. You’re killin’ me, ok? ALSO, I’m REALLY annoyed that EVERY time I comment on a blog, I get an email EVERY time anyone else comments on it. Then, I have to manually go in and make it stop. PLEASE. SOMEone. HELP me. How can I make it just stop?!

Ok, now that I’ve told you how WP is driving me over the edge… I don’t have children. My answer to this is the same as Mama M (who hosts 5QF). Lol. Babe leaves water in the sink. Dirty dish water. I hate it. I don’t wanna put my hand in it. I don’t even wash dishes in a sink of water. I do it under running water. That water just gets way too nasty for my liking. How you can you feel that the last thing you washed (in gray water) is as clean as the first thing you washed (in clear, clean water)? I just don’t get it. But anyway… Water sitting in the sink does something to me.

Five Question Friday

1. Do you make your kids finish all the food on their plates?

I don’t have any children yet. Babe always finishes though. That count? And if we had children, they would most definitely eat all of their food. We’re great cooks, and we demand excellence from those we feed.

2. Do you give an allowance?

I’m starting to think 5QF is for mothers only. *sighs* No, I don’t give an allowance. Unless you count all of the crazy cash I rain down on Babe. *prepares for the trouble that will come when Babe read this misleading answer* If we had children, yes, we would give an allowance. I believe in teaching money management at a young age. They will know all about banks and how they work. They will understand interest rates, and the importance of saving and investing wisely. We will NOT be dishing out a whole lot of extra cash for lunch and movies, and we won’t be buying them everything they want. Needs will be met along with some wants. The rest? Up to them. Yeah, I know. I’m not a parent yet and blah, blah, blah. Whatever. You don’t know me. I WILL do it. Ask Babe.

3. Do you actually park your car in the garage?

If I had a garage, yeah, I’d park the car in it. Car theft is REAL in these here parts.

4. What is one food you will NEVER cook?

Ummm… Pork. Never.

5. Do you have anything exciting planned for the summer?

No solid plans, no. I have some wishful thinking though. I wanna visit one or two other Bahama islands. I also wanna get quite a bit of writing done. This includes short stories, and a two series of books for children. Wish me bunches and bunches of luck and hours of productivity, y’all!

Five Question Friday

1. Who mows your grass?
I’m not a homeowner yet. 😦 When I am, I will happily mow the lawn. I did it when I worked as a live-in for a youth program. Our house was awesome, and we had a sweet yard.
2. Do you have a picture wall or picture gallery in your house (show us! <— my addition to the question)?
No. I wish! I want one of those really cool frames with different sizes and origins of photos. I took a picture of a cool one some time ago, but it was on the phone that was stolen.
3. What book has influenced your thinking the most? Or, what blog? (I want to read what gets people thinking!)
Not sure. Maybe Eat Pray Love. Honestly, I think that answer is a cop-out. I don’t have much time to really think about this. Hmmm… Yeah, I don’t know.
4. Do you have allergies? If so, how do you handle it this time of year?
None. YAY, me! It must suck to have allergies.
5. What’s your go to meal to cook in an hurry?
I cook everything pretty slowly. Lol. I enjoy the process. Quick meals are Babe’s specialty. The quickest thing I make is probably spaghetti.

Five Question Friday

1. Will you run to the store or to pick up a kid looking a mess?
Looking a mess? Not quite. I wouldn’t doll up. A short dress or shorts and a tank would do. I’d put a cap on if my 1 inch hair doesn’t meet society’s standards. Lol. I rolled out of bed one night to get my niece from a party, and I just threw on a short dress and flip-flops. *shrugs* I figure I’m fine as long as I can step out of the car, and manage to put air in the tires.
2. Do you finish a book if it’s boring or you don’t like it?
Never. Babe has tried to get me to read one or two books that I just could not get into. I had to explain to her that reading is something that I do for pleasure. I have always loved it. There are far too many good books out there – books that I can appreciate – for me to waste time fighting through books that I just don’t like. If the first few pages don’t grab me, I don’t see how I can end up liking it. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is a prime example (though not Babe’s suggestion). People kept telling me that if I “could just get through the first 100 pages…” Um, what?! No. I’m not supposed to feel like I’m working. The AUTHOR was supposed to do the work. He/She is supposed to make me WANT to read it. Fail.
3. Beach or mountain vacations?
Since I live on an island, I’ll go with mountain vacations. I’d love to be able to climb and hike. I’d still like to have an island vacation (on a different island of The Bahamas) at some point. I think it would be terrible to travel all over the world, but not know/see/experience what is in my own backyard. 700 islands and cays (not all inhabited)… I need to go to at least 5 of them.
4. What thing/event says “winter will end and spring is right around the corner” to you?
When the water gets warm again, I guess. We don’t really have a winter here. When I lived in Halifax, it was tulips. Seeing them pop up always made me smile.
5. Would you prefer couples or family vacation?
I really don’t know. I’ve never had either. I think both would be great. If I had to choose right now, I’d go with couples since we don’t have a family. Yet.
My week has been pretty good. It got rocky yesterday evening. Seriously, it doesn’t take much to change my mood sometimes. I was quite happy and feeling good until ONE comment was made. I’m under a lot of pressure these days, and I’m finding it a lot harder to deal with being told what to do and how to do it, random, unwanted criticism, and negativity. I’m just not in a place to deal with it in a positive way. I’m also not in a place where I can respond to issues as they arise. I am not a confrontational person to begin with, but at this time, I feel that I am a lot more likely to curl into myself. I’m a loner by nature. It’s only by very intentional thoughts and actions that I interact with others. It’s been a work in progress for a long time, and I don’t expect it to just flow every single day. Some days are harder than others, I guess.
I think I may be overdue for a good cry. Or scream session? I am SO not a crier, but because I don’t talk, talk, talk, a lot of things never get out of my system until I actually breakdown and cry. Lucky for me, I’ve been running and practicing yoga. This has definitely been helping. I’m one of those people that needs to be active, and using exercise as a release and refresher. Nothing wrong with that, right?

Took my lunch to the beach. Sat there to clear my head.

This weekend, there were a few things that I wanted to do. Lots of changes have happened with the plans, and now I’m just not interested. I’m not very flexible. I make a conscious effort to be, but right now, I can’t be bothered. When plans change, I get really annoyed, or very uninterested. Especially with things that I talk myself into. For example, a book binding workshop was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. Help was needed to bind booklets for another event, so teaching people how to do it was an easy way to get help, I guess. I RSVPed on Facebook. A few days ago, they said they no longer need to bind the books, but will host a free workshop anyway, and people can make scrapbooks. Me? No longer interested. Thanks, but no thanks. I have no desire to express any sort of creativity, or to sit around doing something very basic (because I suck at artsy things) while people around me are doing awesome things. No, thanks. I talked myself into doing the book binding thing that would have simply been following instructions. I’m not interested in pressuring myself to be creative, and make my own scrapbook. Screw it.

Ok, whoooa. Lemme slow down. It’s still been a good week. I got a lot of things done. Yes, there is still a lot left to do. Yes, a lot of people have pissed me off this week. Work is getting crazy. The event is 29 days away. Hooolyyy! I’m getting a lot of flack for a lot of things that have nothing to do with me. When I get home, I really just want to relax. But there are things to do. Cleaning. Cooking. I can’t expect Babe to continue to do it all. I really have to pull my own weight. Then, of course, there’s the writing. It has to happen.
BALANCE. BALANCE. BALANCE. Balance is what I’m striving for. It’s always been what I’ve wanted in life. Until this point, I have succeeded. Now, it’s more difficult. I don’t want to say that it’s just not possible for the next 29 days or so. That would be quitting. I can’t quit. I just need to wind down and figure things out. Maybe the weekend (with nothing to do) will help. Maybe.
Random thing I just remembered: My birthday is in two weeks. There are/will be no plans. It will suck. I am (mentally/emotionally) ready.
The silver-lining to all these clouds: I am alive. And living. Not just breathing. And there will always be a better day.
How was your week? Do you have plans for the weekend? How do you express yourself best?

Five Question Friday

Five Question Friday

1. Are you looking forward to the time change this weekend?
YES! I will finally be able to resume my evening runs! WOO!
Image2. Are you getting the new iPad/would you want a iPad?
No and no. I am not an Apple fanatic, and I sooo do not see the use of a tablet. I already have a laptop. And whyyy would I want to type on a touch screen? No, thank you, ma’am.
3. If money was not a problem, what is the one thing you would splurge on?
I answered this in a tag or something in the last week or two. I would invest in my writing space. That’s small scale. On a large scale, I’d make the move to Canada.
Image4. How did you and the Mr. (or Mrs.) meet?
Truth be told, on twitter. I followed her. She followed me back. I tweeted about dessert. She salivated. I invited her to meet me at a restaurant for said dessert. She accepted the invite. We met there, like each other’s company enough, and hung out a few times since then. Became good friends. During a game night (with no games), it came up that I don’t discriminate in love. Her interested was piqued. Ba-da-bing and ba-da-boom.
5. Summer is right around the corner. Bikini or one-piece?
BIKINIIIIIII! I may not have the “perfect body,” but I’m definitely comfortable enough to rock a REAL two-piece. None of that tankini business.
Note: I would add captions to the photos and space this out better if WordPress would stop being a pain and allow me to. 😦

Five Question Friday

Five Question Friday tiiiiime!

1. Where is your favorite vacation spot and why?
We covered this before, didn’t we? Maybe in one of those things I was tagged in. I’ve never had a real vacation, so I don’t have a favourite spot. It would be cool to go to the Maldive islands (I know, I know… Mama said this in her blog, but I fell in love with photos of those islands last year). It’s super far away though. I’ve always wanted to go to Australia too. And South American countries.
2. What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
There aren’t many pleasures that I feel guilty about, honestly. LOL. I figure I can eat and drink what I want, do what I want, and put my energy into the things that I love. Life is too long and too short to feel guilty about drinking a bottle of Coca-Cola, watching an episode of Desperate Housewives, or tweeting in the middle of important tasks. If I’m not here to enjoy life, what the hell?!
3. What is your favorite fashion trend right now? Or, in the past?
Are there any fashion trends right now? There’s nothing that comes to mind, really. I LOVE(D) the leggings w/ short dresses (or long shirts) while it lasted. I also believe that I should have been in my 20’s in the 80’s because I looove the fashion. All the prints and colours! My gossshhh!
4. What are your spring break plans?
What the hell is a spring break? I guess I could tell you that I’ll be in The Bahamas… Lol.
5. What baby names do you hate?
The ones that could never suit a baby. Like, really, THAT’S what you came up with when you met this tiny person?!
And I REALLY hate the combo names that Bahamians are famous for.
Monique and Clifford? Your baby shall be called Cliffique!
Reginald and Syliva? Your daughter shall be Regia!
And then the names that are just the father’s name with a stupid ending like -ique, -shan, -quelle, or -isha. GAAAAAH! Kill yourself.
Like, really, I could have been Alanquelle. Or Alanisha. *dies*
Ok, I usually invite you to answer all of the questions in the comments, or own your own blog. Today, I would like you to Bahamian-name yourself. If you used your father’s name along with one of the endings, what would your name be?

Five Question Friday

1. What’s your favorite way to spend down time (alone or with a significant other)?
Alone: Reading, writing, eating fruit, drinking tea
w/ my siggy: snacking, having tea, watching movies, talking about random things, and snugglin’ up! 🙂
2. Are you the kind of person that wants things more as soon as you know you can’t have it?
No, not at all. Never been the big-eye kind. I’m usually pretty content with what I have. What I want is generally in my reach, even if I have devise a plan, save, and wait a little bit.
3. If you were given $1000 to spend on yourself, what would you buy?
So much, yet so little! If I have to spend it on myself, I’d invest in a few things for my writing corner. I’d like an untreated wooden desk. There’s a place here called “WoodYou” that sells wooden furniture that isn’t stained or painted. I’d love to get it from there. Then, I’d find the right stencils to put a cool design on the border of it. Then stain it. Then, I’d get a nice, wooden chair, and a cushion. You know the ones that you sit on, and they have strings so you can tie them under the chair? Yesss… WANT! Then I’d outfit the space with a desk lamp, put up a corkboard, purchase notebooks, journals, pens of different colours, and lots of post-it notes. That should burn the $1000.
If I could get away with not spending it all on myself, I’d go grocery shopping for great ingredients, and invite some good friends/family over for a nice meals. I’d also get some cool little giveaway item that everyone can keep to remember the night.
4. Do you ever go out to eat by yourself?
I haven’t done it in a long time because there’s always choice company these days, but I used to. A lot.
5. What company would you want to do a blog review for?
What’s stopping me from doing a blog review that I wanna do? Now, if we’re talking blog-review-for-goodies, then BARNES & NOBLE!
Link up to this week’s 5QF.
As always, you’re welcome to answer the questions in the comments. I like hearing from you. 🙂

Five Question Friday

Ok. I gotta make this one quick. Super busy, short day! This is happening often now, I know. Rushy, rushy, rushy. It’s just so BUSY right now. Wowzaaah!
1. What do you do when you are really upset to calm yourself down?
Hmmm… Cry, and shower. Run, cycle, or some other form of exercise.
2. Do you go all out for V-day or is it just another day?
Somewhere in between, I think. I don’t like to go all out when I’m concerned that the other person isn’t very into it. But I don’t want it to be just-another-day that just flies by with no recognition. I wanna do a lil something. Something nice, make us both happy, and very unique to (and perfect for) US. Not just a cookie-cutter fit-the-mold this-is-what-people-do-on-Valentine’s Day stuff. Screw the roses. How ’bout some gerbera daisies or lillies? And chocolate? Pssh. That’s a treat I’ll take/give ANY day.
3. Are you more or less productive when Hubs is away?
I don’t have a Hubs, but I have a Babe. I’m probably the same. If she’s ever away, we spend time text messaging/Skyping/emailing. If we can’t really be in touch, it could go either way. I may watch movies and read books, and I may get things done like writing. *shrugs*
4. What is your favorite time of day and why?
Morning. I love my drive to work. It’s pretty smooth with minimal traffic, but I have to travel a lot of looong roads, so it takes a while. Usually about 25 minutes to get there. It’s a little bit of ME time. I can clear my head, think, rock out in the car… Whatever. I also really like my evening/night shower. It’s awwwesommmmme. Hot water. Quiet. Dark. It’s the perfect way to release all of the everything of the day. Wash it all away, wipe it clean. It’s like a little bit of Sunday at the end of every day.
5. What is your go to karaoke song?
I would have to have a LOT of drinkage to do karaoke. LOL. I don’t have a go to song, and I have no idea what I would sing. I SOOO wanna do it though. It would have to be somewhere I’m visiting, where I have no concern about every seeing the people in attendance again. Lol.
As always, you can link up for Five Question Friday, or answer the questions in the comments.
If you haven’t already, read my guest post over at Victoria Writes. 🙂
Have a great weekend! 🙂

Five Question Friday

1. How often do you shave your legs in the winter?
Ahem. How often to I shave them in the frickin’ summer? LOL. I am SO not into leg shaving. I hate it. I rarely do it. Most of the time, I wear jeans, so it doesn’t matter. If I decide to wear shorts, or go to the beach, or anything of that nature, I bite the bullet and shave ’em. If I’m just wearing shorts, I shave just high up enough that it looks like I did it all. Ahahahaha. Yeah. The height of laziness. I know. I don’t care.
2. Valentine’s Day cards for your spouse: funny or romantic?
Romantic. Actually, I was looking at cards on Thursday. They were really all just too much. So many words. So specific. I think I was kind of annoyed at how many words were on them. But I always hate when they’re too plain, like, “You’re amazing, and I love you. Happy Valentine’s Day!” I like a happy medium. Three or four lines, and room for me to write whatever I want. I don’t like funny cards. Maybe for birthdays, but not Valentine’s Day. I want it to be sweet, but to ring TRUE. I haven’t seen any cards that I like, so I may just have to make one. And I am NOT crafty. *sighs* Cross your fingers for me. I’d like to be able to give Babe something that doesn’t look like my 8 year old cousin made. *signs cross over self*
3. What are you most looking forward to about spring?
My birthday. Lol.
I live in The Bahamas, so the weather has little change, and little impact on my life. I guess I’m looking forward to my blog buddies cheering up as the weather warms up, and flowers start poppin’ up? Yeah. That.

My fingers look funny. Whatever. I just got my nails diiiiid. 🙂

4. What’s your favorite way to pamper yourself?

Not into pampering at all. I like the end result of getting my nails done. Not actually having them done. I hate getting my hair done. Actually, you know what? I like getting my hair washed. The scrubs and rubs and massages are great. I like that. Not the rest of it. I don’t do much “pampering” of self, but I do treat myself. Chocolate cake, ice cream, good books, spontaneous purchases…
5. Does your tax return go into savings or do you spend it instantly?
Once again, I live in The Bahamas, so this is something else we escape. We do not pay taxes. Not directly. No income tax, no sales tax. We DO have to pay duty on pretty much EVERYthing that we bring in to the country which SUCKS… Especially since we have to bring EVERYthing. We don’t make anything here. Here’s an idea of our duty rates:
  • Clothing – 35%
  • Shoes – 25% (How shoes are more important than clothes, I will never understand)
  • Electronics – 45% (Does not include computers which are duty free except for the $10 stamp tax; does include stereos, video games, alarm systems)
  • Cars parts – 60%
  • Shampoo – 40% (Seriously?! It’s NECESSARY. We NEED to wash our hair!)
  • Cigarettes/Cigars – 220% (MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!)
  • Vehicles – 65-85%
  • Pens – 45%

You get the picture, right? Most people don’t know the duty rates. I know a lot of them because I used to work for a freight-forwarding company. And my brother is a Customs Officer.

Well, HAPPY FRIDAY! Hope you’ve crossed everything off of your to-do list for the week, and you’re gearing up for a great weekend!
