Five Question Friday

1. Are you a napper?
No. I hate naps. They just make me really cranky when I get up.

2. What was your favorite subject in school? Most hated?
My favourite subjects were math and English, and I could never choose one over the other. Then economics came along in the tenth grade. FAVE. Most hated was definitely science, and then biology when it came along in tenth grade.

3. Did you have the something old new borrowed and blue at your wedding? What were they?
Haven’t had a wedding yet, and I don’t plan to do that. Maybe I’ll have something cold, stolen, gifted, and green. I don’t know. Lol.

4. What one thing are you determined to do this summer?
Get my children’s book series going!

5. Ice cream or Popsicles?

Ice cream!

Sunday Stealing Meme

Sunday Stealing Meme Questions

1. When you’re home alone, do you still close the door when you use the restroom?

No.

2. If you have to go grocery shopping, would you rather go alone or with someone?

I hate grocery shopping here, and feel better about it if the task is split. Sometimes, I feel like I get it done faster when I go alone. It really depends. One thing I like about going alone is knowing what I have in the cart, and what the cost of the items is. I keep a tally in my head.

3. It’s your best friend’s birthday. Would you buy them a gift even if they didn’t buy you one for yours?

Yeah, I like getting gifts for people. Especially if I know them well, and have an understanding of what they like/want/need.

4. You win the lottery. Lump sum or small payments over a period of time? Why?

ALL of it NOW. I’m an economics brain. A dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow.

5. Do you like your music loud, or at a reasonable level?

Is loud not reasonable? What is a reasonable level?

6. Are you a beach person, or a snowy mountain person?

Beach.

7. When do you brush your teeth?

FIRST thing in the morning, and last (or almost last) thing at night. And usually somewhere in between.

8. Can you watch scary movies alone?

That would be my preference.

9. Soft bed or firm? And in fantasy land, who’s in it with you?

More firm than soft, I think. Babe. Who else?

10. Would you rather stay home all day, or be out and about?

I haaaaate being at home all day. I need to get fresh air. Be outside. Take a walk. SOMEthing. I also hate traffic, so I’m not a fan of being out in it all day. *shrugs

11. What’s one of your worst memories (that you are comfortable sharing)?

My great-grandmother’s grief after the death of my grandfather.

12. Do you like to keep the peace or be confrontational?

I HATE confrontation. Hate it. I prefer to address issues in a calm, un-accusing manner.

I know that when someone addressing something with me and uses YOU YOU YOU and makes assumptions, it really pisses me off, and I am automatically on the defense, and their message is lost on me. I just shut down. Either I tell them to screw off, or I am completely unresponsive and whenever they feel they are done, I am happy to be on my way. Knowing this, I do my best not to take that approach, but to center what I am saying around me, and the way that I feel rather than what they DO DO DO.

13. Are you more likely to be with a large group of people, or a few close friends?

A few.

14. What are your plans for October?

Launch series of children’s books. That’s about it.

15. If money were not a problem, where would you like to live?

Canada. Not sure which province.

16. What is your ideal profession?

If I had children, stay-at-home mumma!

Senior management of a non-profit organization, preferably geared toward youth work.

And writer.

17. Are you close to your Mom and Dad?

Close enough.

18. What is one fear that you can’t seem to overcome?

Hmmm… Of animals, I guess.

19. Are you good at math?

Exceptional even!

Five Question Friday

Five Question Friday tiiiiime!

1. Where is your favorite vacation spot and why?
We covered this before, didn’t we? Maybe in one of those things I was tagged in. I’ve never had a real vacation, so I don’t have a favourite spot. It would be cool to go to the Maldive islands (I know, I know… Mama said this in her blog, but I fell in love with photos of those islands last year). It’s super far away though. I’ve always wanted to go to Australia too. And South American countries.
2. What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
There aren’t many pleasures that I feel guilty about, honestly. LOL. I figure I can eat and drink what I want, do what I want, and put my energy into the things that I love. Life is too long and too short to feel guilty about drinking a bottle of Coca-Cola, watching an episode of Desperate Housewives, or tweeting in the middle of important tasks. If I’m not here to enjoy life, what the hell?!
3. What is your favorite fashion trend right now? Or, in the past?
Are there any fashion trends right now? There’s nothing that comes to mind, really. I LOVE(D) the leggings w/ short dresses (or long shirts) while it lasted. I also believe that I should have been in my 20’s in the 80’s because I looove the fashion. All the prints and colours! My gossshhh!
4. What are your spring break plans?
What the hell is a spring break? I guess I could tell you that I’ll be in The Bahamas… Lol.
5. What baby names do you hate?
The ones that could never suit a baby. Like, really, THAT’S what you came up with when you met this tiny person?!
And I REALLY hate the combo names that Bahamians are famous for.
Monique and Clifford? Your baby shall be called Cliffique!
Reginald and Syliva? Your daughter shall be Regia!
And then the names that are just the father’s name with a stupid ending like -ique, -shan, -quelle, or -isha. GAAAAAH! Kill yourself.
Like, really, I could have been Alanquelle. Or Alanisha. *dies*
Ok, I usually invite you to answer all of the questions in the comments, or own your own blog. Today, I would like you to Bahamian-name yourself. If you used your father’s name along with one of the endings, what would your name be?

Five Question Friday

It’s Friiiii-daaayyy, Friiiii-daaayyy! Gotta get down on Friiiii-daaayyy! Five Question Friday, y’all. Here we go.

1. What is the weather like where you are and do you like it?
It’s kind of cool-ish. 73(F), and should be 64(F) tonight. I DO like it, actually. This is perfect weather, to me. I can comfortably wear jeans and a top, and a sweater. Even a scarf in the evening, if I really want to. I like warm clothing. It’s nice to wear shorts and tank tops, but that gets old. It’s easier to like nice when you wear long pants and stuff. And I sleep way better in cooler weather. No matter what the temperature is, I HAVE to be covered up to sleep. This means that heat is brutal at night. It’s just not very nice beach weather, and I really like the beach… Can’t have it all though. Oh! And I just remember something else. I LOVE soup. I feel like making soup. Making and eating soup is ridiculous in the heat. When there’s some chill to the air, though? Perfect.
2. When you’re sick what do you seek comfort from?
I ball myself. On the bed, in the couch, under Babe… Wherever. If I’m by myself, I rock while I’m balled up. The only way I won’t rock is if someone is there to comfort me with their warmth and hugginess. Blankets. Soup. TEA. Tea is a big one for me. Love tea.
3. What do you need to do before the end of the month?
I need to complete the no-longer-than-two-pages description I need to write for the program I want to run. To get a grant of $5,000-10,000. Basically, the US Embassy is giving one-time grants to organizations/community leaders/individuals for HIV/AIDS prevention/education promotion. I have some pretty great ideas, but it will be pretty hard to get support from organizations, community leaders, media, etc. The Bahamas Christian Council has a lot of influence, and seems to scare everyone else into corners. The church and government are not separate here. Not even in theory, honestly. I’m rather unorthodox in my thinking and beliefs. For example, I think the abstainence message is outdated, unrealistic, and ineffective. To go even further, I think that it hurts a lot more than it helps. It just means that young people are ill-equipped, dishonest, and afraid. They do what they want to do behind the backs of all in authority, hurting themselves in the process by not protecting themselves. All because they don’t have what they need. The complete knowledge and understanding of the epidemic, condoms, support. Ok, got a little off track there. I also need to write a short story before the end of the month. I have a million competitions that I’d like to enter.
4. Have you ever served on a jury?
No. I just registered to vote for the first time, and I think the registry of voters is what they use to draft the jury lists. If I got called, I’d answer the questions as best I can to avoid being chosen. I’d probably be a good juror because I’m so non-partisan and by-the-book, but it’s a huge waste of time. Court cases go on for far too long. And the other jurors would probably make me want to kill them. Lol.
5. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
Animal? Oh, dear. I really don’t like animals. At all. If I had to BE one… Gaaah! What would I choose? I have no idea. Ummm… I’d be a dolphin. They’re so cool. Mammals of the sea. And they do those cool jumps. Yeah. I’d be a dolphin.

Five Question Friday

I haven’t done this in a while. I hope I remember how it works! Hahahaha.
1. What movie do you love to quote?
I don’t think I ever quote movies. I quote people in real life (like my parents, siblings, etc.), and songs. I have a flair for inserting song lyrics in every day conversations. Seriously. I am SO good at it.
You know what, I say, “Too infinity! And beyooooonnnnnd!” quite a bit. Generally, when I tell Babe, “I love you…” Ahahahaha. That’s from Toy Story. Buzz Lightgear or Lightyear or whatever.

2. Have you ever ridden a motorcycle?
Yep. I like motorcycles a lot. I’ve never been in control of/driven a motorcycle though. I think it would be super cool if a bunch of people went on an island tour with me, via scooters. We could all buddy up and rent scooters (two people per scooter) and scoot around. SCOOT, SCOOT! We’d stop off to cool places like the beach and fish fry (where they sell native food like – you guessed it – fried fish along with the best daquiris in the worrrrrld… And I’m confident in saying that, even though I haven’t travelled the entire globe YET), and the caves. It would be SO fun. And slightly less dangerous than riding on motorcycles.

3. What’s your favorite thing to do on a rainy day?
Curl up on a couch with the best snuggle buddy in the world, drinking hot chocolate/tea, eating cookies and other goodies, watching movies, and reading books.

4. Do you prefer a bunch of small gifts, or one really big, (expensive) gift?
I ask myself this question all the time. It’s even a tough call when it’s for someone else. Last year, I had the time of my life, filling stockings for my nieces. It was awesome. There were lots of goodies, and I knew they’d have a great time unwrapping and unpacking things from their stockings. I loved it. They loved it. It was great. It turned out to be kind of expensive. I could have very well bought them iPods for the money I spent. Would it have been as much fun (for either of us)? No. Not at all. This year, though, I’m settling on one cool item. Lots of pressure on me though. I only have ONE chance to score! GAAAAAH!
For myself, I like either one. A really nice gift is cool, but so are a bunch of little, thoughtful, me-worthy items. I think lots of small(er) gifts can be more fun. Especially if they’re all very ME, or connected. Like a cookbook, and a bakeware set, and an apron… Just an example. You get the drift.
No matter what, I like to have something I can treasure. Whether it’s a big gift that will last a long time, and I can keep, always think of the giver, awesome. If it’s one item of the 10 small gifts (that could be a charm for a bracelet, or a really good book), that’s cool too. I just like to know that thought went into the gift(s), the person related it directly to me, and it’s not just random selection and wrapping. That’s all. 🙂

5. Do you ever lose track of days and show up somewhere wrong?
Hahahahahaha. This has actually never happened to me. That’s funny though. Well, when it happens to other people. I wouldn’t like it much. A few times, in university, I showed up to the wrong class (due to confusion of locations, not knowing about room changes, or general disorientation). It’s great when you sit in a class, listen to the professor go on and one, and THEN they announce the class you’re in. THEN you’re all, “Huh?! Whaaaa?!” And you look around to see if anyone else looks confused or lost, as you hide your own lost-and-confused-ness. And you wonder if you should leave, and dash to the right class since it’s only been 15 minutes (that you’ve missed). But you realized you’ll look crazy if yon walk out after the announcement of the name/number of the class when you’ve been there for a whooole 15 minutes! GAAAAAH! What to do, what to do?!
