61. Ocean or pool? Ocean for relaxing, pool for swimming.
62. Fridays or Ruby Tuesdays? Only been to Fridays once, and never to Ruby Tuesdays. I think I’m indifferent. I don’t like chain restaurants. Well, except for Olive Garden. 🙂

66. Why do you like the music you do? Because I’m all crazy and stuff. I like it all.
67. Do you read much? Yeah. I LOVE reading. It may or may not have something to do with my love for writing, and for language. I tend to read in the same way that I eat dessert. I savour each bite. I reread sentences over and over because they are so beautiful/poetic/weird/funny.
68. Favorite country? CANADA.
69. What is something you wish you were better at? Running. But that would require actually doing it regularly, no? *taps own hand*
70. What’s your favorite album/CD? No idea.
71. What’s a good dinner order? Pizza? We can’t order anything but pizza on this silly island. We can’t even get Chinese food delivered! Or does this mean in a restaurant? Depends on the restaurant. Sunday Stealing Meme Questions

1. When you’re home alone, do you still close the door when you use the restroom?

No.

2. If you have to go grocery shopping, would you rather go alone or with someone?

I hate grocery shopping here, and feel better about it if the task is split. Sometimes, I feel like I get it done faster when I go alone. It really depends. One thing I like about going alone is knowing what I have in the cart, and what the cost of the items is. I keep a tally in my head.

3. It’s your best friend’s birthday. Would you buy them a gift even if they didn’t buy you one for yours?

Yeah, I like getting gifts for people. Especially if I know them well, and have an understanding of what they like/want/need.

4. You win the lottery. Lump sum or small payments over a period of time? Why?

ALL of it NOW. I’m an economics brain. A dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow.

5. Do you like your music loud, or at a reasonable level?

Is loud not reasonable? What is a reasonable level?

6. Are you a beach person, or a snowy mountain person?

Beach.

7. When do you brush your teeth?

FIRST thing in the morning, and last (or almost last) thing at night. And usually somewhere in between.

8. Can you watch scary movies alone?

That would be my preference.

9. Soft bed or firm? And in fantasy land, who’s in it with you?

More firm than soft, I think. Babe. Who else?

10. Would you rather stay home all day, or be out and about?

I haaaaate being at home all day. I need to get fresh air. Be outside. Take a walk. SOMEthing. I also hate traffic, so I’m not a fan of being out in it all day. *shrugs

11. What’s one of your worst memories (that you are comfortable sharing)?

My great-grandmother’s grief after the death of my grandfather.

12. Do you like to keep the peace or be confrontational?

I HATE confrontation. Hate it. I prefer to address issues in a calm, un-accusing manner.

I know that when someone addressing something with me and uses YOU YOU YOU and makes assumptions, it really pisses me off, and I am automatically on the defense, and their message is lost on me. I just shut down. Either I tell them to screw off, or I am completely unresponsive and whenever they feel they are done, I am happy to be on my way. Knowing this, I do my best not to take that approach, but to center what I am saying around me, and the way that I feel rather than what they DO DO DO.

13. Are you more likely to be with a large group of people, or a few close friends?

A few.

14. What are your plans for October?

Launch series of children’s books. That’s about it.

15. If money were not a problem, where would you like to live?

Canada. Not sure which province.

16. What is your ideal profession?

If I had children, stay-at-home mumma!

Senior management of a non-profit organization, preferably geared toward youth work.

And writer.

17. Are you close to your Mom and Dad?

Close enough.

18. What is one fear that you can’t seem to overcome?

Hmmm… Of animals, I guess.

19. Are you good at math?

Exceptional even!

If you feel like answering the questions, share the link so I can read them. 🙂

Five Question Friday

1. Who mows your grass?
I’m not a homeowner yet. 😦 When I am, I will happily mow the lawn. I did it when I worked as a live-in for a youth program. Our house was awesome, and we had a sweet yard.
2. Do you have a picture wall or picture gallery in your house (show us! <— my addition to the question)?
No. I wish! I want one of those really cool frames with different sizes and origins of photos. I took a picture of a cool one some time ago, but it was on the phone that was stolen.
3. What book has influenced your thinking the most? Or, what blog? (I want to read what gets people thinking!)
Not sure. Maybe Eat Pray Love. Honestly, I think that answer is a cop-out. I don’t have much time to really think about this. Hmmm… Yeah, I don’t know.
4. Do you have allergies? If so, how do you handle it this time of year?
None. YAY, me! It must suck to have allergies.
5. What’s your go to meal to cook in an hurry?
I cook everything pretty slowly. Lol. I enjoy the process. Quick meals are Babe’s specialty. The quickest thing I make is probably spaghetti.

11 Questions from Janie

I love getting tagged. I keep telling you so that you can tag me whenever you’re tagged. Hahaha. Janie fell for my trick and tagged me. YAY!

1.) What is your biggest regret in life?

I really put a lot of effort into acting intentionally. I never want to regret. I think, move, act, and exist with purpose. Every decision I’ve made has been based on a combination of my desire and resources at my disposal. I can honestly say that I have no regrets. Everything I have done has been with great purpose, even if it came with a price.

One thing that I’ve looked back on a few times is my move back to The Bahamas (from Canada). I really don’t belong here, and I’d much rather be in Canada. That doesn’t change the fact that I needed to return. I felt the need, although I did not know why. Shortly after my return, my great-grandmother decided to close her business – one that I grew up in. I spent my Saturdays, my summer vacations, and Christmas breaks in her store. I made a lot of my own money helping out in that store. I knew that I would miss it when it was gone. I was happy to be in Nassau to work in the store during it last few months.

My mother got ill soon after that. She has been hospitalized twice. Being in Canada would not have served me well during those times. My grandmother’s health also declined. With every passing month, it got worse, and ended in her death. How would I have dealt with that, in another country? How would I ever get to a place of forgiveness (of myself) for staying in Canada for my own comfort, forsaking the life that I could have been living in proximity to those that I care about?

Regrets? I have none. Reasons? I have many.

2.) What makes you angry?

Ignorance. Hatred. Unfair judgment.

3.) Are you capable of forgiving and forgetting?

No. Forgiving, yes. Forgetting, no. It is right to forgive. It is unwise to forget.

4.) What do you consider the biggest fight you’ve ever had in your life?

The biggest physical fight I’ve ever had was with an ex. He followed me, ran ahead of me, and eventually trapped me in a dark, empty parking lot on my university campus. There was a lot of struggle. Residence security and police became involved. It was a bad scene. I’m happy to say that I no longer suffer trauma from what occurred. I remember it, but it is not a large part of who I am today. I suffered quite a bit over the next few weeks, but counselling and the support of my friends really helped. Let me also say that I realize that the same event could have drastically different impacts on others.

I also had another sort of fight. Hatred took up residence in me. It did not seem to want to leave me. The things that I saw and experienced at a young age made me a hateful, cold, bitter person. As I child, I freely told my father that I hated him. I harboured a great deal of anger against a lot of his family – people who took care of me – because I didn’t think they were good people. They didn’t fight for what was right. They stood by and let bad things happen. There was a lot that I absorbed. I was not expressive, so I held onto a lot of pain. I had things to say, and no one to say them to. This ended up taking a major toll on my health. When people say that you can become physically ill from emotional stress, trauma, unexpressed feelings and the like, believe it. It was a huge battle I had to fight against large parts of myself (and/or what became me). It was years of slow, hard battle, and there are probably still scars, but the wounds have healed.

5.) What is the ugliest part of your personality?

Devil’s advocate syndrome. It’s something I have to learn to control. I’d practiced it for a long time as a way to make decisions for myself, and anticipate any opposition that may arise. It is now a part of me, and I do it automatically. I constantly have to stop myself from saying things in response to the most rudimentary of comments. I don’t want to become an eternal pessimist, all because I am a (strong) realist.

6.) Do you choose to see the best or the worst in people? Why?

I start everyone off with 100%, and leave it to them to cause its decline. That being said, I trust my instincts, and keep my guard up, and my striking fist ready. It’s a contradiction, I know. I have very heightened senses, and I can tell a lot about a person by their words and actions. I see intentions beyond what is readily shared with me. I’ve never been proven wrong, so I continue to trust my instincts. I have them for a reason. So I guess I look for the best, but remain prepared for the worst. I’m also the last and final devil’s advocate. If you need a critique, I am the one.

7.) Do you think other life forms exist in the universe?

I know that it is possible. There isn’t much that I don’t think is possible. The universe is vast, and I inhabit a small part of it. It would be crazy for me to think that I, and my kind, are all that there is. Am I particularly interested in finding out for certain? No. It’s of no consequence to me, as far as I can tell.

8.) If God were to grant you a wish, what would it be?

The resources that would allow me to share life lessons that I’ve gained in my 25 short years on this earth. To be able to teach. To inspire. To encourage. For my education and my passion to marry into a life of fulfillment, knowing that I am living my purpose. I know for certain that my life experiences were not meant to just happen to me. They happened for me. To be something for others.

9.) What would you do if a stranger threw a spoon at you? (This happened to me!)

WHAT?! I have no idea! That’s pretty absurd. Does the spoon hit me? I think that would make a difference, somehow. If it doesn’t hit me, and no further attempts are made, I’d probably shrug it off and go about my business. If it hits me, I guess I’d be in a 10 second state of shock and immovability. Then I’d repeatedly hit the person with the spoon. In the face.

10.) You are sky diving and you realize that you can’t open your parachute so, in a few moments you are about to die. What do you think would be your last thoughts?

What a beautiful world. What a beautiful final sight. This is the best way to leave the world. Seeing it from God’s point of view, in all of its splendor. Untainted by the endless chatter of people, the raging to-do list, or the all-encompassing concern for self. Just being of the tiniest dots in a vast universe, with the best view possible of the planet I once inhabited, abused, abhorred, and misunderstood.

11.) What will you do tomorrow?

Tomorrow, I will run. I will work. I will write. I will drink water. I will show love to my Babe. I will start having breakfast again. I will create a new budget sheet. I will edit. I will be the best me that I can be.

Well, that was fun. And maybe a little intense. Those questions were awesome. Thanks, Janie!

Five Question Friday

Five Question Friday tiiiiime!

1. Where is your favorite vacation spot and why?
We covered this before, didn’t we? Maybe in one of those things I was tagged in. I’ve never had a real vacation, so I don’t have a favourite spot. It would be cool to go to the Maldive islands (I know, I know… Mama said this in her blog, but I fell in love with photos of those islands last year). It’s super far away though. I’ve always wanted to go to Australia too. And South American countries.
2. What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
There aren’t many pleasures that I feel guilty about, honestly. LOL. I figure I can eat and drink what I want, do what I want, and put my energy into the things that I love. Life is too long and too short to feel guilty about drinking a bottle of Coca-Cola, watching an episode of Desperate Housewives, or tweeting in the middle of important tasks. If I’m not here to enjoy life, what the hell?!
3. What is your favorite fashion trend right now? Or, in the past?
Are there any fashion trends right now? There’s nothing that comes to mind, really. I LOVE(D) the leggings w/ short dresses (or long shirts) while it lasted. I also believe that I should have been in my 20’s in the 80’s because I looove the fashion. All the prints and colours! My gossshhh!
4. What are your spring break plans?
What the hell is a spring break? I guess I could tell you that I’ll be in The Bahamas… Lol.
5. What baby names do you hate?
The ones that could never suit a baby. Like, really, THAT’S what you came up with when you met this tiny person?!
And I REALLY hate the combo names that Bahamians are famous for.
Monique and Clifford? Your baby shall be called Cliffique!
Reginald and Syliva? Your daughter shall be Regia!
And then the names that are just the father’s name with a stupid ending like -ique, -shan, -quelle, or -isha. GAAAAAH! Kill yourself.
Like, really, I could have been Alanquelle. Or Alanisha. *dies*
Ok, I usually invite you to answer all of the questions in the comments, or own your own blog. Today, I would like you to Bahamian-name yourself. If you used your father’s name along with one of the endings, what would your name be?
